Following the completion of the RELATE Trial, [pilotfeasibilitystudies.biomedcentral.com] a team of researchers led by Drs Peter Taylor and Stephen Kellett are in the process of writing up the findings of this feasibility trial for 8-session CAT for adults following self-harm. This was the first CAT trial to be funded by NIHR, and the results have been favourable.
The team have recently secured further funding for another feasibility trial, through NIHR's Research for Patient Benefit [nihr.ac.uk] programme. This time they will study brief CAT after self-harm for young people aged between 13 and 17. The RELATE-YP (Relational Approach to Working with Young People who Self-Harm) is due to begin in December 2025, and will seek to engage participants and Trial Therapists across three North West NHS Trusts:
- Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust
- Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust, and
- Rotherham, Doncaster, and South Humber NHS Foundation Trust
The team are interested in hearing from CAT therapists who work with young people and might be interested in these roles. For more information about this study or forthcoming Trial Therapist roles, please contact Dr Peter Taylor via peter.taylor-2@manchester.ac.uk
